She was given the name Lucy at the first interspecies ecumenical conference in the City of Eternal Noon. Rather than risk offense or ridicule by picking a name herself, she asked one of the human attendees to name her. The name was likely a reference to Saint Lucy, given in honor of the Bright Way's affinity for light.

By most accounts she was a traditionalist, nevertheless, she privately considered a moratorium on interstellar mission work in line with her predecessor. Prior to her accession to the high perch, Lucy had served as a [[research monk]] on [[Yih]], where she worked to develop what would become the [[mass router]]. She struggled privately with addressing the [[neurogel]] abuse crisis within the missionaries.
