Atavism is one of the major belief systems found among yinrih. The central tenet common to most strains of Atavism is the rejection of sapience and the desire to return to being irrational animals. There are two major branches of Atavism, The Atheists and the Misotheists.

Atheist Faction

The Atheist faction is the smaller of the two. Atheist Atavism regards rationality as an undesirable evolutionary fluke. The ability to think abstractly and externalize thoughts through language doesn't make up for the existential dread from knowing one's utter insignificance in the face of the blind uncaring cosmos and the burdan of moral guilt brought on by the ability to conceive of being anything other than selfish and violent. Despite sharing their godlessness, the Partisans reject Atavism's hatred of sapience, and the two groups do not get along well.

Misotheist Faction

The Misotheists originally regarded sapience as a curse placed upon them by the Uncreated Light. Misotheism has, over the course of nearly 95 thousand years, ramified into a myriad of subfactions, many of whom have developed drastically different belief systems completely alien to the group's original doctrines. This diversity is thanks to the habit of Atavists forming isolated primitive societies possessing myths concocted by the founding members designed to keep their descendants blissfully ignorant of the outside world. The resulting societies resemble isolated human tribes, but are all the result of groups of yinrih rejecting modern society and choosing to isolate themselves and their pups.
