Uncreated Light

The Uncreated Light is the most common designation for the incorporeal exocosmic super-intellect worshiped by the Bright Way. According to Claravian theology, it dwells outside of space and time and is responsible for bringing the universe into existence.
It lacks a name, as that would imply there are more than one of its kind that would need to be distinguished with names. The Uncreated Light is thus considered a descriptor rather than a proper name. Various other epithets and kennings are used to refer to it. It is said to belong to no broader category to which even a common noun can be applied. Very orthodox Wayfarers avoid using words such as God or deity to describe it, though most will admit those words fit well enough when pressed.
Being incorporeal it also lacks a gender, as that would imply there are others of its kind of the opposite gender with which it must beget young, and by extension age and die. In English, it is properly referred to as "it" or "It".
Its reason for creating the universe and drawing sapient life into existence is unknown. It loves its creations, as it can be seen using endearing diminutives when referring to the universe (this dear little creation) and the yinrih and other sophonts (my little ones). As with human faiths, however, this love has been challenged in light of the apparent blind indifference of the cosmos at large.
This seaming indifference is highlighted by the Misotheists, who hate the Light rather than worship it. According to Misotheism, the Light is evil and it cursed the yinrih with sapience, burdening them with the knowledge of their inconsequential place in the universe and torturing them by giving them the capacity to conceive of being anything other than selfish and violent while being incapable of acting otherwise.
